In 1966, the Undergraduate Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was designed in an underground two-story building with a courtyard located in the middle of the library (Fig. 1). The primary role of the courtyard was to offer refreshing social space for students.

 

          Yet, the site was not fully occupied in developing interactive components which could attract people. The site requires an alternative plan that can engage students to visit and vitalize not only the courtyard but also the library.

 

          To regenerate the site, the projects needs to deliver dynamic and energetic notions. Water is the best medium to satisfy the concept working as a necessary component. It is movable and easily applicable for any kind of form.

 

         According to Mihaly Csikszentmishalyi, a Hungarian psychologist, mental state in high challenge level and high skill level is a ‘flow state’. Time-wraps sometimes can make students distempered. The project site, Time Garden, can allude the notion of time and vitalize the skewed their cognized space as a new landmark in the Undergraduate library.
