Pattern :
Tool and Container

Overall

Space is a self-organizable form that has symbiotic relationships with its inhabitants and environment. As technology develops, space encourages diverse ranges of purposes and physical forms. However, there are many practical and familiar forms around our everyday products that keep their shapes without changing for a long time. For example, a ladle has consistently kept its shape from the beginning. Through design of the ladle is considerably simple, it still performs its primary function.

Necessary assemblies of the ladle creates space container. Each structural and systematic assembly supports each other physically, and harmonizes with surrounding environment. The new form of space container can be applied to capricious urbanism. The space container offers sustainability from a rapid change of urban scope to pursue appropriate level of urbanism.

Concept

Fluxus, which means ‘flow’ and ‘affluent’ in Latin, is a concept of the space container. Also, it can be applied to our everyday lives. The structure of the container resembles to a successful example of urban design. It circulates around a strong core surrounded by thematic gradient. Through interactions between the core and boundaries, it finds harmony and keeps stability.

Process

           Step 1. Analyzing a ladle
Step 2. Making a model from an actual ladle
Step 3. Making an assembly drawing
           Step 4. Reinterpreting the assemblies
Step 5. Creating a space container
Step 6. Drawing and analyzing sections of the space container
Step 7. Applying to feasible plan through 3D program
